17 Ft version finished in 2019
by: Boating In NJ

Hi, I am uploading pictures of the 17ft version I finished in 2019.

I use it on all the bays and rivers in NJ.

It was great fun to build and more fun to use.

Sea Crow - a boat based on Sea Rover hull
by: Seacrow

Maybe a bit a late but I have built a boat off these plans.
Although, the cabin we designed ourselves and it looks nothing like the original... Nevertheless, a great boat - with 4 adults on board, fully loaded (24 gallons of gas, 10 gallons of water, three batteries, two anchors) and some other supplies we did 20 knots with a 40 HP Evinrude outboard.
I wish you all the best finishing it up. Well worth it!

Sea Rover 17Ft
by: Gerold

Hi Steven, Thank you for the pictures. It is a great boat! Im building the cabin - version and because of our possibilities in Austria I will power it with an electric motor (so I´ll be allowed to drive on most lakes here). Hope I get ahead this winter! Best regards, Gerold Schmidt from Austria

Sea Rover 17Ft version from Steve Harris in NC
by: Steven Harris

My father, Gus Harris, and my brother Vic and I built the Sea Rover in 1965-66.

We loved that boat.

Our big family needed extra room so my dad extended it by using the last transom frame as a the extra frame and duplicated it for the transom.

We powered it with a 40 Johnson, about 135 LBS.

It was a very stable boat, safe and very seaworthy.

For some reason, the extended version did not plane as easily as we wanted (it did but only with weight upfront).

Not a big deal, but I think I would add more power for the extended version, probably a 60-75, as light as you can find.

In any event we built this in the cold Canadian winter in our garage, but it was so worth it!

Please email me at steve@harrismail.com if you have any questions.

I am posting a couple of old pictures I found. - Best regards, Steve Harris.

Sea Rover Cabin - sharing experiences
by: Klaus

Hi Gerold,

I tried in vain to find actual pics of a Sea Rover since I'm about to start building one.

I'm confident to need no more than what is published on this site although the conversion to metric may result in minor differences in material dimensions.

Would appreciate to learn from your progress.

Klaus

Hope this helps.

Pics for your project
by: Barb

Hi, Gerold,

I was excited to see your post. You say your boat is called a Sea Rover by William Jackson.

I have a Sea Babe also by Jackson.

They look very similar so I wonder what the differences might be.

I have been restoring my Sea Babe which my FIL built in 1958. Do you have the original Jackson plans? I have a set for the Sea Babe.

I have a page here on DIY Wood Boat if you'd like to visit and see the pics I have shared. www.diy-wood-boat.com/lady-like-me-1958-sea-babe-restoration.html

Good luck with your project!
I look forward to seeing the pictures.
Barb
