1959 Elgin 14ft Deluxe Runabout

by Tom
(Minneapolis Minnesota)

This was a barn-find and has been out of the water for a good 30 years.

Most of the parts are intact, including a 40hp Elgin Outboard.

The only rot was the keel, which I sealed and shaped with 2 part "TotalBoat" Epoxy.

That worked wonderfully and the bottom ended up in great shape.

Then it was on to the keel building.

A friend (Steve) helped me shape and cut lamination strips which I epoxied and screwed together to rebuild the keel.

Then it was on to bottom paint and stain/varnish.

I am not surprised at how much work this can be, I cant even count the hours I have into her at this point.
