Melonseed Restoration/ 3rd party

Hi,
I am considering buying a Melonseed which is being restored.
Pics showed old paint flaking off the underside of a wide strip planked hull.
The person restoring did not want to glass over the bottom, only added fresh paint after sanding.
Assuming the paint he used is of good quality how much "taking up" time and prep should I do if I decide to buy this boat?
He is also just repainting the interior.
I would be trailering and only placing her in the water to sail.
I would have preferred to glass the bottom and sides as they are not .
Follow up Q: How much "taking up" happens on a glass covered wood hull?
