Dunphy Wood Boat restore

by Karlin Giltner
(Arvada, CO USA)

I am acquiring a 50 ish Dunphy wood boat 12’.

It’s been in my family for 60+ years.

I want to restore it, its been in storage for 40 years, it looks to be solid, no damage.

The finish is pealing.

How do I finish?

Do I power wash first, then sand?

Thank you for the help

Refinishing a Dunphy Dolphin
by: John Egelhof

I have a '54 Dunphy Dolphin in good shape sitting in my shed that I would like to refinish but I don't have a clue on how to proceed.

Some years ago I had some contact with Fred Pospeschil of Michigan, who had a fix on how to refinish the hulls.

Can't get in touch with him anymore.

Any of your members either have a point of contact for Fred, or can recommend me to a good learning resource for starting this project?

No Jet Wash
by: Bill

If she has been in dry storage for a long time the wood should be lovely and dry, perfect for painting/varnishing.

So, no jet washing, just sand/scrape, if necessary use a heat gun/blow torch, but no jest wash.
