Center Board Lift Replacement

I need to replace the lift line on the center board of my Culler buzzards bay sloop.

Can I lift the board out of its housing while in the water to replace the line?

I think it would be much easier and safer to do it out of the water.

It will be much easier to drop the plate down than to try to lift it up.

Besides, I may be wrong but I believe the pivot point for your board may be below the waterline.

Even if it is above the water line there is the problem of getting a good grip on a heavy plate, within the restricted space of the housing, in order to hold and lift it.
