Exterior house paint for hull?

After reading the Which pint to use I'm still not sure if high quality non-marine exterior paint for the waterline on our 13' yellow cedar skiff is the way to go?

It is a used boat in very good condition.

It only needs a new coat of bottom coverage and a pressure washing of the interior then an application of a good Danish Oil type skin on that interior?

Thanks Mike. We're going to use household paint as well.

Using House Paint

Hi Dirk and Johanna,

If you are not happy with the idea of using exterior paint, use the marine variety.

As I explained in that article I'm not a chemist so I cannot say whether one paint is better than another.

However, I do use paint of the exterior household variety on my boat and have found them quite satisfactory, but then I'm happy to regularly, rub the paint down and give it a fresh top coat.

The only disappointment with these ?experiments? so far has been the use of a non-skid floor paint on the plywood deck, I will be replacing that with a proper marine deck paint.

One of the main reasons I started trying the household paints was a logistical one.

Where I live there are several good Home DIY stores but no Boat Chandlers.

OK I know it is easy to order stuff over the internet these days but you do have to pay for the privilege (post and packing) and with something like paint you have to ensure that you order enough first time around and don?t spill any.
