1958 Elgin built by Dad

by Lisa Kendt
(Clyde, NY)

This is a boat that was given to me by my Dad.

He built it in 1958 and it has been stored in his garage for over 50 years.

It has a 22hp Scott-Atwater motor on it.

I am looking to get it running to take my Dad out for one last ride.

This was a kit from Sears and Roebuck in the 50's.

I know nothing about wooden boats and any help I can receive would be great.

Motor Question
by: Lisa

Yes you are exactly right, I hope to ask him questions on tape so I have a complete history.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with the scott-atwater motor and how hard it is to get parts for?

Ask Your Dad
by: Mike

Hi Lisa,
What a lucky girl to be given such a superb boat and what a cleaver dad.

I would suggest that your Dad might be the best person to ask for advice about your boat, after all he built her.

Those of us who no longer have a Dad often regret not having asked them more questions about their life.
